Combating Antisemitism in Academia: Lessons From 60 Years

This lecture will feature Ed’s personal and professional reflections on antisemitism in higher education over the past 60 years. He will examine what has helped improve the situation, what has fallen short, and what still needs to be done. The program will conclude with an audience Q&A.

About scholar:

Edward S. Beck is currently an Affiliated Faculty Member of the Gratz College Graduate Program in Antisemitism Studies and President-Emeritus and Co-Founder of Scholars for Peace in the Middle East. In his academic career he had been both a Professor and Student Personnel Professional specializing in Mental Health Counseling and Counseling Psychology at NYU, Rutgers, Penn State, Walden and other Universities and was either an officer or board member in the American Mental Health Counselors Association, American Counseling Association and Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs. He received his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from NYU and Doctorate from UPenn. He has been active in many local, state and national Jewish organizations, not limited to but including, the Pennsylvania Jewish Coalition, Philadelphia JCRC, Jewish Community Foundation of Central PA, Jewish Federation of Greater Harrisburg, Historic B'nai Jacob Synagogue in Middletown, PA, and Jewish Family Service of Greater Harrisburg. He also founded Kol Central PA, serving the greater Central PA Community and is active in social media. He consults regularly with major Jewish organizations on various projects.
