About the Event
About Lecture:
Freedom of press is necessary, but in and of itself insufficient for a healthy, democratic society. What also matters is whether media institutions honor their responsibility to deliver quality journalism. As the U.S. Media Research Manager at the media monitoring organization CAMERA, David has seen many of those institutions fail to meet that responsibility, especially in their coverage of Israel. Their failure has had real world consequences. Victims have been vilified while perpetrators of horrific atrocities have been left unaccountable and at times even glorified. Policy debates have been slanted and distorted. Important stories have been left unreported or even covered up. In this presentation, David will draw from his experience at CAMERA to share insights on how journalists have failed both Israelis and Palestinians and how these failures can be rectified. This is Part 1 of CAMERA’s three-part series on Media Bias in the U.S., U.K., and Israel.
